China is the world’s largest cement producer, accounting for half of global cement production. As coal is the primary energy source for cement production, the industry is also a sizable contributor to air pollution and climate change. To help address these problems, China’s National Planning Commission and Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation signed an agreement to construct a Waste Heat Recycling system demonstration project in Ningguo, Anhui Province. This case study reviews the co-benefits from this technology transfer project.
