Quantifying the Co-benefits from Solar Energy in China 2020 and 2050

Through the Renewable Energy Law and other high-level polices, the Chinese government has fostered the growth of the domestic solar industry. As solar has come to occupy a larger share of the energy mix, it has lowered emissions of GHGs, reduced conventional air pollutants, and improved public health. This case study describes how to estimate the co-benefits of the transition to solar energy in China, demonstrating that there is likely to be a sizable increase in these benefits between 2020 and 2050.
